When Brice Wizner did not pursue playing junior hockey after graduating from OHS
in 2009, he presumed that his days of playing competitive hockey were probably
over. What he knew for sure was that by enrolling at the University of
Minnesota-Duluth, he was certainly going to still be immersed in a thriving
hockey community. After a few years of playing in the highly competitive
intramural leagues at UMD and watching the Bulldogs win the NCAA Division 1
National Championship, he found himself longing for something more. “I was
missing the family atmosphere of a close knit team and the day to day activity
of being on a team.” Enter the UMD Men’s Club Hockey Team. “The club team
seemed like the logical step. I had played with and against several of the club
players in intramurals, and I felt like I could fit right in.” The UMD club
team competes locally in the Western Collegiate Club Hockey Association (WCCHA)
with rivals Minnesota, Wisconsin, St. Cloud State, Mankato State, Northern
Michigan, St. Thomas, and Waldorf College. The club team is a Division 2 team

The 2011-12 UMD club season was an enjoyable and successful one for both Brice
and the team, ending with a 3rd place finish in the WCCHA tournament. Following
the season, Brice was elected as the captain of the 2012-13 UMD club team for
his senior year. Joining Brice on the roster this year is another Hilltopper,
2012 OHS graduate Noah White became one of the 3 goaltenders on the roster and
has already seen action in the early season games earning two wins. The club
team is off to a great start with a 4-0 record coming on sweeps of UW-Superior
and Minnesota. The next action for the team is vs. Bemidji State Oct. 13-14.
